The American cockroach is the largest of the American house-infested roaches and a major pest. It is often commonly referred to as the water bug, the canary of Bombay or the palmetto bug. The American cockroach, given its name, is not originally from North America. Some evidence suggests American cockroaches were introduced in the early 1600s by ships from Africa.
