1. Lighting

lots of insects are drawn to the heat given off by lighting and are so drawn to actinic ray that it's actually wont to lure insects into glue traps and bug zappers as a method of pest control. These are great tools for luring flying pests far away from your building or taking care of any that will sneak inside, but this also illustrates why you would like to be judicious together with your lighting strategy. Affix a minimum amount of lighting on to your establishment and instead, install fixtures far away from the building while directing light toward doorways.

2. Dumpsters

Cleanliness is important to all facets of food service, but dumpsters are of particular concern because, if not properly managed, they are likely to attract pests and become a public eyesore. take care you invest in a very dumpster that's appropriately sized for yours has to help prevent overflow, and often clean the world with a hose in a very manner that permits water to flow into a drain (unless employing a dumpster deodorizer, which mustn't be discharged into the environment). Dumpsters should be placed far from your main building and fitted with securely shut down lids.

3. Entrances & Exits

Doors and windows should be kept closed where necessary, but out of necessity other spaces such as receiving areas, driving through windows and primary entrances are opened regularly and sometimes for prolonged periods.Try investing in an air curtain in these circumstances to discourage flying insects. Most doors will also benefit from a door sweep that seals gaps between the door bottom and the floor / threshold for additional protection not only against moisture and drafts, but also against insects and rodents. Always be on the lookout for unintended entrances; a great pest control strategy is to check the exterior of your facility regularly and plug any cracks and crevices that pests can use to sneak inside.

Interior Considerations for Pest Control

Daily cleaning and sanitizing, and prompt attention to accidental messes, are universally important when it comes to deterring pests inside your restaurant. Following are several fields that are especially noteworthy.

1. Dining & Food Prep Areas

Seats and tables should be cleaned clean, and the area under / around the table should be swept once a party leaves. You must be watching for loose crumbs, drips, and splashes on and around tables, equipment, and even waitress stations in your food preparation area.

2. Storage Area

Store dry food goods in tightly sealed containers for food storage, as loosely closed bags and boxes are an open invitation to pests. Food must be stored at least 6 "off the ground and 12" away from the walls to allow easy cleaning and inspection of the area. Stock should be rotated using the First In First Out process, paying special attention to slow-moving goods which are more likely to contain pests

3. Trash Cans

A liner must be used in all trash cans inside your restaurant, and all trash cans should have lids — whether that means investing in a step-on- box, a swing top lid or a tight-fitting lid for your regular round commercial trash box. Another essential and too often ignored waste management necessity is to keep the bin clean of any refuse that may slip through the liner's punctures.

4. Floor drains

Floor drains can be an unfortunate breeding ground for pests -flies, in particular, in a janitor's closet or warewashing region. Check frequently for loose debris under the drain grate, and keep the drain itself clean with an enzyme-based cleaner such as Noble Chemical EDM+.
